Like a dark, hidden forest, the natural plumes and ferns inside this unique gem are black on a field of grey. They come to life in the light, and the rest of the time provide a secret, flashing scene inside the one of a kind setting! This dates to the beginning of the 1900s - perhaps as late as 1930s, although I think it's fro the Arts and Crafts movement. The reverse is signed, and also appears to be stamped with a maker's Mark.
